    Domains:

  • 1 What is a domain?

A domain is like your street address and postal code, but online. It’s how people find your website. Every domain must be unique, so the web-server knows where to send the user. Domains are made up of different components. For example, mysite.com is constructed from a top-level suffix ‘.com’, and the second-level name “mysite”.

  • 2 What is a subdomain?

Subdomains leverage your primary domain, and add new pages that branch off. Using the mysite.com example, we could add a store, or contact subdomain, by simply adding store.mysite.com or contact.mysite.com.

  • 3 How do I register a domain?

With GnomeHost, domain registration is quick and painless. Use our domain quick search, find a free domain name, and add it to your account. Once you have secured your domain, you can begin to add website hosting and email services to your account. You’ll be ready in no time. More on domain registration.

  • 4 Domain hosting and domain registration:

Owning a domain, and a fully functional website are two different things. Domain registration means you own that location. Unless you are planning on establishing your own local server for hosting, you will need the services of a hosting company. A hosting company keeps your content and data online and accessible, for a monthly charge.

  • 5 What is a domain transfer?

If you currently own a domain with one registrar, you are able to transfer it to your GnomeHost account. You must ‘prepare’ the domain for transfer with the current registrar before we can move it over.

  • 6 Does domain registration include email services?

EnckeTechnologies offers unlimited email forwarding with domain registration and hosting services. For more about our email packages, read this.

    Hosting:

  • 1 What payment methods are available?

We stand by our "Pay your way" promise. We accept all major and crypto currencies. We don't restrict users based on what currency they use, or where they live.

  • 2 What does GnomeHost offer?

At GnomeHost we offer a variety of solutions to suit any need. We offer shared and cloud hosting, virtual private servers, virtual droplets, and dedicated server hosting.

  • 3 What is Shared Hosting

This is the most common form of web-hosting. It means that many different clients are sharing the same physical machine. This works well for sites that are not resource-intensive, as it keeps costs low.

  • 4 What is VPS hosting?

Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting provides a virtual machine to consumers. This virtual private server is more secure and stable than simple shared hosting, as you recieve dedicated server space.

  • 5 What is Cloud Hosting?

Cloud Hosting is usually clustered VPS services, that are networked together in the cloud to provide scalable hosting services. Cloud solutions are a fantastic choice for those businesses with dynamic demand.

  • 6 What is a Dedicated Server?

This involves the renting of an entire dedicated server. It is usually too much power for simple website hosting. It suits resource hungry applications or sites.

    Security:

  • 1 How secure is GnomeHost?

No matter what hosting service you chose, you recieve the same security features. GnomeHost uses enterprise-level security protocols for everyone.

  • 2 What does SSL stand for?

SSL is short for ‘secure sockets layer’, is a security technology used to create an encrypted link between a web server and the browser making the requests. The SSL encrypts all data being shared between the two locations, to protect both parties.

  • 3 Does all hosting include SSL protection?

Yes! All EnckeTech Hosting includes optional SSL protection, and it comes recommended. Most hosting platforms charge extra for this service. We don’t. We think privacy is a right, and security is integral, therefore we offer it to all of our clients.

  • 4 What is a VPN?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It essentially allows the user to secure their connection to another network. VPNs are used for a variety of reasons. These include privacy when surfing the web, securing on public wifi networks, unlocking geo-restricted content.

  • 5 I have nothing to hide, do I need a VPN?

As we have established VPNs are not just used for anonymity. Taking your online security seriously is important, and you can easily protect yourself from malicious online activity by using a VPN.

  • 6 What does DNS stand for?

DNS stands for Domain Name Server, and is a service that maps domain names to IP addresses. Most people never interact with a DNS, but it’s incredibly useful. It essentially allows you to write a website into your browser, and it will turn that into something your computer actually understands, which is an IP address.
